Community Alcohol and Drug Services - Auckland Medical Detoxification Services

Supporting people at home, in the community or in an inpatient unit

The CADS Medical Detoxification Service is for people who have a physical dependence on alcohol or other drugs (e.g. opiates, methamphetamines, benzodiazepines).

Physical dependence is when people:

  • Need to increase how much they take to get the same effect
  • Experience physical and psychological withdrawal symptoms if they stop drinking or using drugs

Medical Detox Services can help minimise the withdrawal symptoms and provide support for people who want to stop or reduce the amount of alcohol and other drugs they are taking.

Our Community & Home Detox team (CHDS) can help you at home, or visit you in the community and we have a specialist inpatient unit for people who need a safe place to stop drinking alcohol or using other drugs.

If you would like to know whether detox might be an appropriate option for you or you have questions about the detox process, you can visit us or call 845-1818.

Walk-in clinic available 10am-1pm Mon-Fri at Pitman House

The service provides medical community and inpatient services to assist people who have a dependency on alcohol and/or other drugs who want to stop or reduce their use.

The in-patient service provides an approximately 6 day detoxification interventions and recovery programme to reduce the harm from drinking alcohol or drug taking (length of stay may vary depending on medical needs). It supports clients to become abstinent or to reduce alcohol and drug use to non-harming levels.

The out-patient community service provides detoxification interventions and recovery programme for clients in their own home, or any suitable facility he or she resides in, to reduce the harm from drinking alcohol or drug taking. It supports clients to become abstinent or to reduce alcohol and drug use to non-harming levels. Interventions are provided in one to one or group based formats and are family inclusive.

Interventions are provided at our service address.
