After Care

After-care involves providing on-going support so that the gains made in treatment are not lost. Continuing care is important because people who have received help can face a high risk of relapse in the time immediately after treatment.

After-care can include relapse prevention, self-help groups and individual support for those wishing to maintain the changes they have made in treatment. Access to education or training, advisory services, peer support and social networks and employment support may also be included.
